I am genderqueer and pansexual and I am an astronomy and planetary science PhD student.//
I am currently a PhD student at Northern Arizona University using microbial communities in the Fryxell Basin of the Dry Valleys of Antarctica as an analog for potential extremophile life on other planets. I am specifically focusing on the instrumentation and remote sensing techniques that can detect these microorganisms and their potential biofilms on Mars and exoplanets. As someone who’s undergone significant gender discrimination in my STEM fields, I am passionate about creating inclusive spaces for underrepresented people in STEM. Too many times I have felt alone, isolated, and misunderstood in my research and in the classroom. These experiences have made me passionate about inclusive education and pursuing academia where I can actively disintegrate toxic spaces in STEM.
