I am queer and I am a theoretical ecology professor.//
I got a PhD in theoretical physics but had already started drifting into theoretical ecology by the end of graduate school. I’m now a full professor and am still delighted that someone will pay me to do math. I try to be pretty visible on campus. There’s a sticker on my office door with a wavy rainbow line over the words “Not Straight,” and when I’m meeting with prospective undergraduate or graduate students, I generally dress extra dapper.
