I am gay and I am a MD/PhD student and bioentrepreneur. //

When I attended my undergraduate graduation ceremony in 2015, I found an unmet need for visibility in STEM. As the emcee spoke the names and career paths of each student, I was awed by all the ways we would impact and shape the changing landscapes of tomorrow’s society. Nonetheless, one aspect of my community resonated during the ceremony: I was the only one planning a career in either medicine or research. As much as we were increasing our community’s representation in many professional fields, this representation was disproportionately allotted. Such experiences have informed my goals in science. By illuminating my personal experiences and perspectives throughout my professional career, I aim to create an atmosphere of understanding within the biomedical community.
