I am bi and I am a PhD student. //
I studied biochemistry as an undergraduate and went on to do a master’s in cardiovascular science. Biologically, the heart fascinates me but it also has a huge clinical relevance as heart disease is currently a leading cause of death worldwide. I now study a PhD in the same field, looking at how stuff stem cells release when grown in a lab can be collected and used to repair the the heart after it’s been damaged by a heart attack. For me the ability of scientists to coherently relay our work to the public and advocate greater funding for research is just as important as performing the research itself.
