I am gay and I am an entomologist.//
I am the director of science and research for Discover Life in America, a nonprofit that catalogs the biodiversity of Great Smoky Mountains National Park. I attended University of Texas for my bachelor’s, Virginia Tech for a master’s in entomology and Rutgers University-Newark for a PhD in evolutionary biology. I love learning about all the insects, plants, and other lifeforms in the Smokies and I am a big fan of community science through platforms like iNaturalist. I have been fortunate to find a supportive and embracing community wherever I have lived and I try to provide that support to LGBTQ+ students and youth that I work with.
