I am gay and I am a metabolic biochemist.//
After growing up in a small conservative Alabama town, I moved to Birmingham to pursue my dream of becoming a physician and earn my BS from Birmingham-Southern College. I came out during my undergraduate senior year. I then went on to pursue post-graduate work at Mississippi State University (where I learned that I deplore yeast genetics) and Louisiana State University and the Pennington Biomedical Research Center. I am passionate about research- particularly studying potential new therapeutics and causes of insulin resistance, diabetes, and obesity.
