I am gay and queer and I am a psychologist.//

I am a national and international researcher, educator, speaker, and author focusing on LGBTQIA+ affirmative psychotherapy, clinical competence, and public policy. I earned a doctorate in Clinical/Counseling/School Psychology from the University of California, Santa Barbara. At the City University of New York Graduate Center, I am a member of the doctoral faculty within the Clinical Neuropsychology Program and an Associate Professor of Counseling at Hunter College. I have over 25 years of clinical, teaching, and supervisory experience within the mental health field. My scholarship focuses on LGBTQIA+ health inequalities with an emphasis on clinical competence, cultural humility, and training. I was the 2014-2015 Regent’s Fulbright Scholar and one of the first queer scholars awarded a Fulbright entirely focused on LGBTQIA+ issues. I developed both the Sexual Orientation Counselor Competency Scale and the LGBT-Development of Clinical Skills Scale.
