Kevin Wong

He/Him

I am gay and I am a marine and molecular biologist.//

I am a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Miami Rosenstiel School of Marine, Atmospheric, and Earth Sciences studying the impacts of ocean warming on tropical corals at a molecular level. My current research aims to use single-cell approaches to determine the functions of genes in corals that are not currently annotated. I am originally from Vancouver Canada and received my Bachelors of Science in Environmental Science from Carleton University in Ottawa. I received my PhD at the University of Rhode Island where I studied the impacts of thermal stress events on corals within and across generations. Outside of research, I am passionate about science communication through art, as this is an under-utilized tool to help translate scientific concepts to a broader audience. As a gay person in marine science, I am proud to be part of a community that continuously aims to increase diversity and visibility in STEM for the next generation of scientists.

Please feel free to reach out to me if you have questions about my journey!
