I am gay and I am an epidemiologist.//
I fell in love with epidemiology when I learned about infectious diseases and how data can be used to inform public health decision making to reduce disease burden. I am passionate about educating the public on evidence-based science, including the importance of vaccinations to prevent highly contagious diseases, pre-exposure prophylaxis and condom use to prevent the spread of HIV, and adequate hand washing, the most cost-effective appproach to preventing the spread of disease. My short term career goal is to become a nurse to expand my clinical knowledge and expand the services I’m able to provide related to specimen collection and vaccination. Eventually, I would like to become a public health nurse practitioner or a county health department director.
