I am gay and I am a professor at UC San Diego.//

I study the evolution and diversification of life and work to increase diversity in STEM. I study the ecology and evolution of viruses that infect bacteria (phages). My lab at UC San Diego leverages this fundamental research to counteract the rise of antimicrobial resistance. I hope that one day STEM spaces will be as queer as the arts, and I believe this will help fuel innovation!
