He/Him

I am gay and I am a statistician.//

I am a gay Professor of Statistics at Stanford University. I grew up loving math, and focused on statistics while a student at Princeton because statistics may be seen as the gatekeeper of the sciences. Or, as John Tukey said, you get to “play in other people’s backyards”. The study of randomness and what can be inferred from data in an honest way has driven my research. While most of my work is on mathematical statistics, I have developed many methods of inference which have been applied to many diverse fields, such as: clinical trials, econometrics, climate change, and others.
