Jeremy Chiang

He/Him

I am gay and I am an optometry PhD student involved in supportive cancer care research.//

I graduated from the University of New South Wales and worked as an optometrist in the community for two years before deciding to embark on the path of academia. My current research is looking at nerves on the surface of the eyes as markers of nerve damage in the hands and feet of cancer patients after chemotherapy treatment. My long term goal is to foster collaborative care between eye care professionals and other health professions. I’m committed to increasing public awareness and educating students about eye diseases and the maintenance of eye health.

I’m grateful for having very supportive family members, friends and mentors. I’m also thankful for having an understanding partner who keeps me happy (& sane) throughout the stressful times of PhD life.
