I am gay and I am an ecologist. //
I’m a lecturer at the University of Lincoln (UK). My research focuses on how the environment influences disease ecology and transmission in birds, so I spend a lot of time in the field or the lab. Most of my fieldwork happens in the UK, but I have also worked in countries where I’ve been very conscious of the priviledges of being LGBT+ in countries like the UK (and I say that as someone who was at school in the shadow of Section 28). I’m increasingly aware of the importance of visibility and representation, and am keen to do what I can in terms of being a visibly out scientist.
