I am gay and I am a biologist.//

Hi! I am a graduate student biologist at George Washington University in Washington, DC looking to research cancer epigenetics and molecular biology. Prior to entering a PhD program, I studied lung cancer cell biology and biochemistry at WashU School of Medicine in St. Louis. I grew up in a small town in the Ozarks and did not come out as gay until I was well into college and experiencing a lot of career uncertainties and self doubt. I did not have any type of minority role models, so I know first hand how difficult it can be to come into your identity on your own, and I want to work to increase LGBTQ+ visibility in STEM education. Despite, currently, the most highly visible scientists in the nation being straight, cis, white males, we are here, too!
