Horace Luong
He/Him
I am gay and I am a chemist and instructor.//
I was born and raised in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia and completed a BSc (Honours) at Dalhousie University in 2003 and a Ph.D. at the University of Victoria in 2008. After spending almost five years under the supervision of Professor Tom Fyles, I conducted research in the area of solid-phase synthesized ion channels. Following graduate studies, I worked with Professor Cornelia Bohne (University of Victoria) for a short post-doctoral fellow term before relocating to the University of Manitoba where I am currently the Associate Head of Chemistry (Undergraduate studies). My other commitment to the Department of Chemistry is in lecturing organic chemistry classes as well as administering the organic chemistry laboratory programs.
When I’m not in the classroom or lab, I own a ballroom dance business so I’m usually on the dancefloor. I have been a board member of NASSPDA (North American Same-Sex Partner Dance Association) since 2017 where we promote bringing acceptance and diversity onto the dance floor in social and competitive events.
