Ash Porter

I am non-binary and I am an evolutionary biologist.//

I became fascinated with microbial evolution during my undergraduate degree at the University of Queensland, and completed by PhD in viral evolution at the University of Sydney in 2021. During my PhD I discovered novel viruses in a range of critters, including bugs, geckos, non-human primates and bandicoots, and explored how viral families can co-evolve with their hosts. Currently I am working on modelling the evolutionary dynamics of zoonotic SARS-CoV-2 at the University of Melbourne.
