I am gay and I am a hydrologist.//

Hi! I’m Arin and I am a Hydrology Program Manager for the Western Region Headquarters of the National Weather Service, supporting the hydrology program at field offices in 8 Western states. Though technically based out of Salt Lake City, I work remotely from my home state of Montana. I have a BS Degree in Geophysical Engineering from Montana Tech and a MS Degree in Agricultural Meteorology from Iowa State University. Before transitioning to my current role, I began my work in the operational hydrology space at the US Geological Survey’s Kansas Water Science Center as a hydrologic technician, then moving to the National Weather Service’s Missouri Basin River Forecast Center as a hydrologist/river forecaster before moving back home to Montana as a Senior Service Hydrologist with the local NWS office.

In my spare time, I enjoy an array of outdoor activities including downhill skiing, hiking, snowshoeing, kayaking, gardening, and also working on old cars. I am proud and feel so fortunate to work for an agency that embraces and supports its LGBTQ+ community. Never in my wildest dreams growing up did I think being out at work and life in general would feel so inclusive.
