I am a lesbian and I am a telecom technician and software engineer.//

I worked for my company C1 for 22 years. I have an unrelated bachelor's degree from the University of Minnesota in criminal sociology with a psychology minor and I never worked in my field after graduation. For the first 8 years of my career, I worked in the warehouse for the same company, and then I taught myself how to upgrade phones and circuit packs and eventually moved into the tech lab. Primarily my work as a technician is centered around Avaya hardware and software products, virtual Windows servers as well as working with multiple virtualization infrastructures. C1 has been ranked one of the best places in the United States to work for both our commitment women in tech and to ongoing diversity efforts. I actually never saw myself working in STEM, but I'm really glad that I do, and I have never felt anything other than supported as an out lesbian in my workplace.
