I am gay and I am an evolutionary ecologist. //

I’m a PhD student investigating how parasites influence inter- and intraspecific interactions in an avian hybrid zone. I’m originally from the UK, but I’m doing my PhD at Uppsala University in Sweden. I’m a borderline obsessive bird-nerd and that has led me to travel the world to study and watch birds. This has exposed the stark differences and immense privileges of being LGBT+ in liberal and accepting Sweden vs countries like Senegal where homosexuality is illegal and where the community faces beatings, fines, and imprisonment. Visibility is one of the best ways to counteract this and change public opinion.
