He/Him

I am gay and I am an evolutionary ecologist working on insect-microbe-symbioses.//

I am a junior group leader trying to understand how insects engage in long lasting interactions with microorganisms and how these symbioses affect the ecology and evolution of both partners, and thereby contributes to the diversity and beauty of organisms sorrounding us all. Originally from Bavaria, I was the first and only in my family to study and to come out as gay. I made it through a few cities and institutes and the one thing I love most about being a scientist in this field is it’s diversity. Symbiosis research is a highly interdisciplinary field combining basic and evolutionary biology, physiology, ecology, analytical chemistry, biochemistry, bioinformatics and so on. With the diversity in science came at each institution also a diversity of people: colleagues from different cultures, continents, nations and orientation who are usually welcoming and open about this diversity. I consider myself lucky to be able to experience this enviroment every day and can call may of those people friends and hope that I can support this welcoming athmosphere from my side as well.
