I am trans and I am a high school biology teacher.//
I came out as trans as a teenager, and the challenge of navigating high school inspired me to become an out teacher and an advocate for queer and trans youth. As a biology teacher, I get to expose students to all the most amazing and beautiful parts of life, including the diversity of living things. Gender and sexual diversity are topics that is seldom taught in the canonical high school biology curriculum–I grew up being taught that XY men make sperm and XX women make eggs which combine to make babies, and that’s all there is. My current project is developing a gender-inclusive biology curriculum to share with other educators. I am also a songwriter, musician, and aspiring astronaut.
