Paul Sokoloff

He/Him

I am gay and I am a botanist, Mars analog researcher, science communicator. //

I am a gay botanist at the Canadian Museum of Nature in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. I work on a team documenting the vascular plant diversity of the Canadian Arctic, and most summers you can find me collecting plants in a field camp in Nunavut or the Northwest Territories. I’ve also always had a deep fascination with space exploration, so I’ve jumped at the opportunity to conduct analog missions to Mars in the deserts of Southern Utah, where I’ve learned a lot about spaceflight and the Utah flora. Most importantly, though, I’m always keen to share our research stories with the public, be it highlighting cool plants, insider tales from the “Martian outpost,” or talking about my experiences as a queer scientist.
