I am gay and I am an astrophysicist.//
I am a professor in the Physics Department at the University of California, Santa Barbara, a fantastically beautiful and stimulating place to work. I came out many years ago when I was a postdoc in Toronto (another great place to live and work!), and have never looked back. I have been astounded by how rapid the progress has been in the US and elsewhere for LGBTQ rights, but also utterly dismayed by the lack of progress for equity and justice for other communities. There is so much more to do.
I am very happily married to my husband (officially, when it first briefly became legal in California, since 2008, but we have been together for much longer), and also enjoy the company of our cats and parrots.
