Nathan H. Lents

He/Him

I am a biologist and author. //

I am a Professor of Biology at John Jay College (CUNY). My laboratory works on evolution of the human genome, with a particular interest in human uniqueness and orphan genes. I teach genetics, human evolution, research methods and capstone writing, and the biology of sex, gender, and sexuality. I also write popular science articles and two books: Not So Different: Finding Human Nature in Animals, and Human Errors: A Panorama of our Glitches from Pointless Bones to Broken Genes. I’m currently working on my third book on the evolution of human sexuality.

I live with my husband and our two beautiful children in Queens.
