He/Him

I am gay and I am a PhD student in synthetic biology.//

I am a Mexican American scientist who is living in the beautiful city of Edinburgh, Scotland. I have a background in Biotech Engineering, so when I first learned about Synthetic Biology I was mesmerized with the idea of using engineering principles to tinker with biology. I am fascinated by how biology can be engineered to ameliorate many of nowadays problems. Hence my decision to do a PhD in it. I currently work in developing cloning tools to enable a fast and cost effective DNA assembly for an uncommon microorganism, that can survive toxic environments enriched with metals. I hope one day, a growing LGBT+ representation in STEM, will inspire young LGBT+ students to pursue any STEM subject of their choosing.
