I am gay and I ama wildlife disease ecologist.//
I investigate how human encroachment on wildlife species leads to transfer of diseases between wildlife and people (zoonoses) and people and wildlife (reverse zoonoses!). I focus on parasites and bacteria in the gut and more recently on the spread of antibiotic resistant bacteria to wildlife. I work with many wildlife species including bats, seals / sealions, penguins, Tasmanian devils, wallabies and possums. I am super enthusiastic about teaching and engaging the public in citizen science (Scoop a Poop: Citizens tackle antimicrobial resistance in the wild). I believe that when I stand up in front of 100s of students I should be myself and be visible. I am an Ally and wish to be more visible outside of my institution.
