Matt Hale

He/Him

I am gay and I am an evolutionary biologist.//

My scientific career is at the intersection of genomics, evolution, genetics, and ecology. More specifically, i use next generation sequencing techniques to study the evolution of complex traits. Most of my career has been centered on the genetic basis of migration in salmon and trout, but recently i’ve gotten involved in some projects looking at genomics in high Arctic fishes.

I’m an Associate Professor at TCU where i teach courses in genetics, genomics, population genetics, and professional development. I feel strongly that being out and visible is important not only to my identity, but also to support LGBTQ+ students, especially in conservative Texas. In my spare time i’m an avid birder, gardener, traveler, coffee addict, Indian food aficionado, aspiring baker, and mountain lover.
