I am queer and I am an environmental scientist.//
I’m a PhD candidate at UC Berkeley. I study water resource management and climate change, and I’ve found that queerness centrally informs my science. Having an expansive sense of gender, sexuality, identity, and community helps me to be more imaginative, especially when I consider the ways in which we could live together with each other, non-humans, and our planet as the climate changes!
I grew up in the Midwest in a context in which queerness wasn’t visible, let alone celebrated. That made for a rough adolescence! Now as I’m becoming a scientist, I’m trying to build community around queerness and the ways that queer organizing and queer joy relate to broader projects of social liberation.
