He/Him
I am gay and and I am a neuroscientist.//
I earned my undergraduate degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from UC Davis in June 2019. After two gap years working in a neuroscience research lab, I began my PhD in Neuroscience at Caltech. My research focuses on developing innovative gene therapy techniques, specifically, using engineered noninvasive viral systems for systemic brain delivery to mitigate and correct disease pathology. Working at the intersection of gene therapy and neuroscience allows me to contribute to cutting-edge science with the potential to transform lives.
As a gay man, my journey has not been without challenges. Growing up and during college, I struggled with accepting my sexual orientation due to societal norms, lack of visibility, and an internalized fear of rejection. This deeply affected my mental health and sense of self-worth. However, finding the courage to come out and embrace my identity has been transformative.
Today, I am passionate about being visible in STEM and LGBTQIA+ communities, and creating spaces where others can see themselves represented. I want closeted individuals to know that their identities are not only valid but also celebrated. By sharing my story, I hope to foster acceptance and inspire others to live authentically.
