Joe E. Heimlich

He/Him

I am gay and I am a social scientist in educational psychology. //

I study people. Especially, I study how people learn in real life like in places like zoos, aquariums, nature centers, museums, science centers, theatres, and other parts of life not school. I am the research director of a social science research lab at a large science museum, with a team that studies learning outside of school across the country. I am proudly a professor emeritus from The Ohio State University, where I taught in environmental education, research and evaluation, and adult learning. I have written on queer learning in science and in museums and have been a quiet activist my whole life. I live in Columbus, Ohio, with my husband of 23 years.
