Jay Mandula

He/Him

I am a transman/transgender man and I am an immuno-oncologist.//

My journey in research has enabled me to embrace my identity and find a place to belong. Research has provided me with a way to explore and understand the world as well as myself and supported my ability to celebrate and live my identity. My current position as a post-doctoral scholar at the Pelotonia Institute for Immuno-Oncology at the Ohio State Comprehensive Cancer Medical Center includes several ongoing research projects focused on understanding the role of the Y chromosome in cancer and immunology.

The numerous hurdles I have faced as transgender scientist motivated me to become public with my story as a resource to support other LGBTQIA+ researchers and to provide a visual example for other young transgender people that they can be a part of the research community and achieve their dreams.
