He/Him

I am queer/gay and I am an 8th grade science teacher.//

I am in my 9th year teaching middle school science for KIPP, a national network of public charter schools dedicated to the idea that your zip code shouldn’t determine your future. I teach 8th grade science, sex education, and lead professional development for other science educators in Texas. This summer, I was a NOAA Teacher at Sea, and spent two weeks aboard the NOAA Ship Oregon II assisting with the SEAMAP Summer Groundfish Survey. None of my teachers in my K-12 journey ever spoke positively about LGBTQ people, and so I dedicate every day to being the teacher I never had. Outside of the classroom, I work to improve conditions for LGBTQ youth in Texas by writing Op-Eds and lobbying legislators to end discriminatory policies against LGBTQ youth in schools. This year, I was honored to receive the Harriett Ball Excellence in Teaching award, for my leadership in and dedication to improving outcomes for students in educationally underserved communities.
