I am gay and I am a medical microbiologist.//
Hi, I’m Gareth! I’m a final year PhD researcher at the University of Southampton. My background is in microbiology and infection, but my PhD is an interdisciplinary project in bioengineering that has resulted in the production of ultrasound responsive particles, for targeted treatment of biofilm infections in chronic wounds. Since starting my PhD I have been working with the UK based charity “The Brilliant Club”, a charity that aims to enable students from underrepresented backgrounds progress onto highly selective universities. As both a first-gen University graduate and member of the LGBTQ+ community, I am always looking for opportunities to widen access and participation in STEM.
