I am gay and I am an ecologist.//
As a First-Gen, Latino in STEM, I always wondered if this was the right field for me. I didn’t have the support that some of my other peers had. My financial situation made me go back to Puerto Rico to study wildlife biology.
Not having a support network really made me doubt myself and my abilities as a scientist. My main goal is to be able to help people like myself. I want to be able to serve as an inspiration for future scientists that don’t fill the stereotypical mold that society has made for the career.
I am working on my B.S in wildlife management with hopes of pursuing a P.HD in ecology in the future. Most of my research is based on plants native to Puerto Rico.
