He/Him

I am gay and I am a plant pathologist. //

I am currently a graduate student at UW-Madison studying Phytophthora infestans gene expression in potato plants. I have a B.S. in botany from Oregon State University, and have been interested in agriculture since my high school days in FFA. Working in agricultural settings I am aware of being a tad outside the norm. Regardless of seeing almost no one like myself, I have persisted in agricultural-based research. Through most of my undergraduate career I extended my classroom education by working as a research assistant in a plant pathology lab. This dedication paid off in my admission to one of the best plant pathology graduate programs in the world. Great scientists think outside the box and those of us in the LBGTQ+ community know about not fitting in boxes.
