I’m queer and I’m an assistant professor who studies computer science education. //
I study computer science education, particularly gender issues in how computer science is taught and who has access to a CS education. I’m joint appointed (50/50) to computer science and education. My PhD and MSc are from University of Toronto; BSc from University of British Columbia. I was out when I came to university. A bunch of profs where I did my undergrad (UBC) had “positive space” stickers on their doors. These stickers were a godsend for me and a lot of other students—even if I never brought up my sexuality with these profs, I just felt more comfortable with them. I went out of my way to TA for and do research for these profs and I’m glad I did!
