He/Him
I am queer and I am a computational biology graduate student. //
My interest in science stemmed from a growing curiosity about why there was such a scarcity of Black scientists/mentors/role models in the science field. I had neither met nor knew of an openly LGBTQIA+ scientist until I entered my Master’s program. Who would have thought that I would be conducting research that can serve both of these communities in HIV-1 drug resistance mutations to the medications Truvada and rilpivirine as Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) for my master’s degree at San Francisco State University? I’ve learned from the amazing community at SFSU that we can achieve so much when we feel safe enough to bring our entire selves into our science. I am absolutely thrilled to start my PhD program at Harvard University this fall!
