I am gay I am a cell biologist.//
I am a Senior Lecturer at the University of Glasgow and Group Leader at the Cancer Research UK Beatson Institute. My lab is understanding how cells co-operate to collectively form tissues, and how this organisation is disrupted during tumourigenesis. We take a systems approach, utilising a combination of computational, molecular, and in vivo approaches to understand cancer biology.
Outside of research, I also work to promote equality and diversity in our Institute and wider, particularly LGBTQIA+ issues. I didn’t have gay role models growing up. Being out and visible is very important to me, if it helps just one person to feel a sense of community.
