Dale Dominey-Howes

He/Him

I’m gay and I’m a geoscientist. //

I’m a geoscientist specializing in natural hazards and disaster risk reduction. The aims of my work are to understand better the processes that trigger natural hazards, their frequencies, return periods, and impacts, but also the social, political, economic, and other human-related contexts in which hazard events trigger “disasters.” Ultimately, the work of my team and I is to reduce future losses from disasters and increase resilience. I’m an out proud gay man and my partner is also a scientist—a much better one that me! I’m speaking out to encourage other young LGBTQI people in STEM to know you’re not alone and an open and diverse STEM community will be better for the whole planet.
