I am gay and I am a clinical psychologist.//
I am working as a clinical psychologist in a research clinic at the University of Sydney. I completed my PhD in the social psychology of gender there in 2013, and then in 2014 I was lucky enough to get a postdoc at the University of Trieste in North-Eastern Italy. I came back to Sydney in 2015, and have been working since then in a role that combines training students in therapy, seeing my own clients, and conducting research. Working as a practicing psychologist and as a research both occasionally present unique challenges as a gay man, but I can’t imagine doing anything else. I think working as a psychologist also is different to most people’s conceptions of what a scientist is.
