I am gay and I am a PhD candidate in neurolinguistics and developmental cognitive neuroscience.//
My dissertation research focuses on infants’ and adults’ abilities to map novel words onto novel objects when the objects are presented in various modalities (pictures/sounds/etc) by looking at how their brains respond. This is not what I originally studied (I am a psycholinguist by training), but it is something that I always wanted to do. Being in research and in academia is already a dream come true. Thankfully, I have gotten to know several other scientists who are open about their sexuality. However, during both of my undergraduate degrees, I only knew maybe one or two researchers (at any level) who were open about their sexuality. I want to be part of the change to show others that our community is strong and thriving. And that we welcome everyone with open arms, hearts, and minds.
