I am gay and I am a computational biologist.//
I am a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Washington. I use computers to understand how genes are turned on and off to create complex, multicellular organisms from a single cell. I received my PhD in Computational and Systems Biology in 2023 from Washington University in St. Louis.
I believe we can only do our best science when we can bring our full and authentic selves to work. I am thankful to have mentors who foster supportive environments that celebrate diversity. Working at the interface of two fields that can be used to harm minority communities (genome science and machine learning) has made me acutely aware of how science influences society.
