Pratulananda Das
He/Him
I am gay / bisexual and I am a mathematician.//
I have been teaching in Jadavpur University, Kolkata, India from 1997 and holds the position of a Professor of Mathematics in Jadavpur University from 2011. My research interests are primarily Topological groups, Set Theory, Set Theoretic and General Topology, Sequence and Summability Theory. I had my whole academic degrees from Visva Bharati University founded by Rabindranath Tagore in Santiniketan and was brought up there from my birth.
I had come out to my ex-wife (I am divorced now) and two of my closest friends about my sexuality way back in 1998 and then came out publicly through my Facebook profile in 2014. In 2015 and 2016, I became involved with several LGBTQ programs in Kolkata and had written my coming out story in Gaylaxy magazine. I had been involved in these activities until 2018 when gay sex was decriminalized in India. Since then I have been more focused on my research as I had started working in topological groups. Despite being openly gay, in 2017, to my utter surprise, I was selected for INSA Teachers Award from Indian National Science Academy and then in 2019 I had been chosen for the “Srinivasa Ramanujan Memorial Lecture Award” of Indian Mathematical Society.
