He/Him
I am gay and I am a neuroscientist and psychiatrist.//
I am an assistant professor in the department of psychiatry at Stanford. I spend one day a week taking care of sexual and gender minorities, with a particular interest in depression, anxiety, and the complex effects of trauma. The rest of the time I run a basic neuroscience lab (www.staarlab.com) in which we use optogenetic, electrophysiological, neuroimaging, and behavioral approaches to probe the neural circuits of reward processing, decision making, and social behavior. I am passionate about mentoring a diverse set of trainees and want to be the openly LGBTQ+ mentor I never had.
