Millicent Schmidt

She/Her They/Them

I am pansexual and gender non-binary and I am a geochemist and data scientist.//

I studied engineering physics as an undergrad, medical geology (geochemistry) for my master’s, and geochemistry for my PhD. I’ve listened for background vibrations at the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-wave Observatory and thrown synchrotron x-rays at everything from water and drugs to lung tissue and lobsters at the National Synchrotron Light Source at Brookhaven National Lab and the Advanced Photon Source at Argonne National Lab. I’ve taught math and science to college and high school students for the last decade and am now transitioning to data science. I’m starting my own company doing data science consulting as Floodplain Data Science LLC. I live in New Orleans with my two partners (a man and a woman, also both queer and in STEM fields) and our 4 kids. For fun, I play boardgames, juggle, and play drums in a brass band (we march in Southern Decadence and the Gay Easter Parade).
