I am a transwoman and I am a materials physicist.//
I’ve known that something was off since puberty, but never had the language to know what it was until recently. I have been a physicist since my days as an undergrad, mainly focused on materials for extreme environments. Currently, I supervise a group of scientists on metals research. At work, I have experienced tremendous support from my colleagues and my direct reports. I realize that is not the case for many within our community, as noted in studies by professional societies such as APS and MRS. I want to share my story so people can see a successful transwoman in science.
