He/Him
I am gay and I am a numerical modeler.//
I am currently working at UKCEH, doing the coding and modelling behind various interesting scientific projects in hydrology and ecology. I started off doing a PhD in atmospheric physics, but eventually worked out that academia was not for me, submitted my work as a masters and left for a meteorologist job. I wasn’t sure if I’d ever return to academia/science as I felt pretty burnt and jaded by my PhD experience. However I found a job in a research organisation that allows me to be involved with some amazing science projects in a way that works for me, and that has a much better working environment and work/life balance than I had during my PhD.
Since starting, I’ve worked on: Developing a dataset of where water is extracted and for what use, improving models of river flows, improving crop yields estimates for the UK and China and forecasting how crop yields will change with the climate.
