They/Them

I am queer and nonbinary and I am a parasitologist.//

I am a neurodivergent (AuDHD), disabled, and queer 4th year PhD candidate at QIMR Berghofer Medical Research institute where I study how the eggs of the parasitic worm Schistosoma mansoni migrate through host intestinal tissue into the intestinal lumen. I am interested in this because the immunomodulatory molecules released by the eggs during migration are potential novel therapeutics for targeting food allergy.

I am also passionate about accessible and inclusive communication and education. I have been teaching undergrads in parasitology, genetics, biochemistry, and immunology practicals at the University of Queensland since 2018. In addition, my lived experience as a disabled neuroqueer has further fed my passion and encouraged me to mentor and advocate for marginalized students. I am particularly interested in educating academics and their institutions about being accommodating and inclusive to neurodiverse, gender diverse, and queer folks in the academic field.

When I’m not doing weird experiments on my parasites, I enjoy caring for and talking to my wonderful house plants, going to live music gigs/festivals, and spending time with my doggos.
