I am queer and I am a protein biochemist.//

I’m a protein biochemist from Puerto Rico with a focus on understanding how life works at a molecular level. My PhD at Simon Fraser University (2025) explored how sugar modifications affect protein structure and thermodynamic stability, part of a broader interest in the mechanics of proteins, from purification and labeling to biophysical characterization and crystallography. I’ve worked extensively with antibodies and glycan-binding proteins, and I see myself as both a method-refiner and a teacher: someone who takes care in getting things right, and in passing that clarity on.

As a queer person in fundamental science, I’ve often been the only one like me in the room. That’s made me especially attuned to how it feels to enter a space—so I try to create labs and environments where people can show up fully. Science is collaborative, and queerness has taught me to notice what’s missing, and who isn’t yet included.

I’m most myself in the quiet of early mornings—whether it’s in the lab running protein preps or outside birdwatching. I care about precision, patience, and small things that matter.

I’d love to connect!
