He/Him

I am gay and I am an evolutionary biologist with interests in wildlife ecology, biogeography, behavior, and physiology.//

I’m a postdoctoral fellow at the Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago, IL. My research broadly focuses on the ecological mechanisms of lineage diversification, eco-physiology, phylogenomics, behavior, and vertebrate life histories. My current research program deals with amphibian and reptile ecology and systematics in Indonesia and Papua New Guinea. My work is heavily field-based and usually involves herps; however, I’ve also worked on seabird migration, habitat use and foraging dynamics in bats, and Alaskan mountain goat thermoregulation.

I think it’s more imperative than ever to support fellow LGBTQ+ scientists, our students, and aspiring scholars in our community. I’m heartened to be a part of 500QS and perpetually inspired by the diversity of stories and life experiences shared herein. At all levels of biological training, I’ve experienced unwelcoming or unsupportive environments for LGBTQ+ folks to some degree. One of my prime career goals is to counter this-, and to foster a welcoming space for underrepresented and “othered” scientists.
